LAHORE: Rana Muzammil, who allegedly ordered the killing of stage actress Qismat Baig in Lahore, made shocking confession on Friday.
In his initial police statement, Rana Muzammil told interrogators that his intention was not to kill the stage actress. “I only wanted her to be left injured in the firing,” he said.
The main accused revealed that he had paid Rs500, 000 to the assailants for carrying out this task.
“I asked Qismat Baig to perform in a stage drama in Faisalabad, but she turned down my offer,” he said, adding that he wanted to teach her a lesson over her refusal.
The police said that further investigation into Qismat Baig’s murder was handed over to CIA Cantonment. The stage actress was killed after gunmen riding motorbikes intercepted her car and opened indiscriminate fire in broad-day light in Lahore on Friday last week.
The actress was critically wounded. She was rushed to Services Hospital, where she breathed her last.
Speaking to SAMAA, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah confirmed that the prime suspect was arrested.
“It was an act of target killing in which some people associated with the showbiz industry are apparently involved, but investigations are underway,” the minister told reporters.
“A promoter identified as Rana Muzammil and his companions are behind the murder,” the minister said.
Sources privy to the investigations say that Qismat Baig was introduced and promoted by Rana Muzammil and that the two were in contact with each other over the last seven years. –
